Bush's New US Attorney a Criminal?

Wednesday 07 March 2007

BBC Television had exposed 2004 voter attack scheme by appointee Griffin, a Rove aide. Black soldiers and the homeless targeted.

There's only one thing worse than sacking an honest prosecutor. That's replacing an honest prosecutor with a criminal.

There was one big hoohah in Washington yesterday as House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers pulled down the pants on George Bush's firing of US Attorneys to expose a scheme to punish prosecutors who wouldn't bend to political pressure.

But the Committee missed a big one: Timothy Griffin, Karl Rove's assistant, the President's pick as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Griffin, according to BBC Television, was the hidden hand behind a scheme to wipe out the voting rights of 70,000 citizens prior to the 2004 election.

Key voters on Griffin's hit list: Black soldiers and homeless men and women. Nice guy, eh? Naughty or nice, however, is not the issue. Targeting voters where race is a factor is a felony crime under the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

In October 2004, our investigations team at BBC Newsnight received a series of astonishing emails from Mr. Griffin, then Research Director for the Republican National Committee. He didn't mean to send them to us. They were highly confidential memos meant only for RNC honchos.

However, Griffin made a wee mistake. Instead of sending the emails - potential evidence of a crime - to email addresses ending with the domain name "@GeorgeWBush.com" he sent them to "@GeorgeWBush.ORG," a website run by prankster John Wooden, who owns "GeorgeWBush.org." When Wooden got the treasure trove of Rove-ian ravings, he sent them to us.

Greg Palast is one of the best investigative journalists today.

You can bet he makes the Repugs squirm real good.

He has published numerous books available HERE at Amazon.

I know there are many, many other important stories out there, but I thought Sidney Blumenthal's piece @ salon.com was interesting today...especially the presidential pardon aspect, a slightly different take than most out there....

"...Only if Libby and Cheney appeared could Fitzgerald cross-examine them about their discussions with Rove, which presumably Rove had already testified about before the grand jury. Rove was the hostile witness against Cheney whom the prosecution had waiting in the wings, the witness who was never called. If Libby had come to the stand in his own defense, and summoned Cheney as well, Fitzgerald might have been prompted to call Rove from the deep to impeach Libby's and Cheney's credibility and reveal new incriminating information about them. Instead, Libby remained silent, Cheney flew off to Afghanistan and Rove never appeared. Rove was the missing witness for the prosecution.

Now Libby's only hope is a presidential pardon. He has already offended Rove and perhaps by extension Bush. Libby cannot afford to offend Cheney. His pardon depends on Cheney's importuning of Bush. Thus Libby's final plea is to Cheney -- and his coverup continues...."

Den, Greg Palast has been writing strong stuff for quite a while and I don't see the Repugs squirming because of it.

Maybe someday.

Just saying...

Dr. B -- if you haven't read it yet, Juan Cole has an interesting article @ salon.com today about bush's 'surge.'

There are a two things from the Libby trial that could have more far-reaching consequences --

1) The trial totally destroyed the image of the bush administration as a smooth-running operation with everyone under message control. It became abundantly clear that the competing 'forces' within the administration have their own agenda and own loyalties. I believe BIG CRACKS will be opening soon.

2) It seems clear that bush purposely contributed to the Plame leak by declassifing information to achieve a desired result. I think if the media would focus on this aspect of the timeline, bush -- and cheney -- would be TOAST.

I just heard from CAREY who reports she has a mean, bad, painful case of shingles! She sends her greetings to all her blog friends and looks forward to being active again when she's feeling normal.

Get well soon, Carey!!!

Micki, that is assuming the right people are paying attention and are willing to do something about it.

The majority of America is asleep politically and institutionally speaking it means Congress needs to bring forth at least a censure resolution against the Administration to even garner enough attention to really make a difference.

I'm hoping Libby breaks his silence or the party itself implodes and the debris carries them out.

Ten years ago something like this would have destroyed the entire Administration, now they manage to keep a meatgrinder war going without serious repercussions, so one has to wonder if it will even raise an eyebrow today.

Carey, poor dear Carey, take care of yourself, do what the doctors tell you to and c'mon back when you feel better, blog hug!

I myself, am not sure this declassifying wasn't done after the fact and 'post dated'. Cheney tells Scooter to blab secrets to Judy Miller, THEN tells his bitch boy bush... "oh, by the way, you declassified part of the NIE so we could fight back against Joe Wilson." Think about it... it just doesn't 'add up' if it was done like they say it was. Judy-fkn-Miller knew about this BEFORE the National Security Adviser, the Director of the CIA, the Secretary of State, and on and on... It sounds like a CYA story to me.

Waxman has GOT to be the busiest man in Washington these days.

Hey hey!!!

Committee Will Hold Hearing on Disclosure of CIA Agent Valerie Plame Wilson's Identity

Chairman Henry A. Waxman announced a hearing on whether White House officials followed appropriate procedures for safeguarding the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson. At the hearing, the Committee will receive testimony from Ms. Wilson and other experts regarding the disclosure and internal White House security procedures for protecting her identity from disclosure and responding to the leak after it occurred. The hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 16.

In addition, the Committee today sent a letter to Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald commending him for his investigation and requesting a meeting to discuss testimony by Mr. Fitzgerald before the Committee.

Alan -- sharp eye! Seriously.

I actually meant to say, "2) It seems clear that bush purposely contributed to the Plame leak coverup by declassifing information to achieve a desired result. I think if the media would focus on this aspect of the timeline, bush -- and cheney -- would be TOAST.

One reason I mentioned the "timeline"...

I have never had shingles but I know people who have had shingles and it is a very painful health problem. Just having clothing on your skin is painful! People cannot even hug you! Hugs are important in life.

I need the posters' help. My wife says that I have too much hate in me in my posting about the Nazis. I do have an intense dislike for the Nazis but I do not believe that I hate them. If I do hate them, do you have ideas so I can reduce the hatred toward the Nazis?
I am trying to make my wife happy. Thank you!

Alan, the picture of Ann Coulter frightens the crap out of me.

Did people notice the Cross around Coulter's neck? How can she continue to hate as much as she does?

How can I be more like Mother Teresa? Where I can see the face of Jesus in each human being!

I heard a story of Mother Teresa that she does not want people to call her Mother either in public or private I cannot remember which it is because the word, Mother, belongs to Mary. She preferred to be called Aunt.

Gerald, Catholics routinely call the Nuns 'Sister' don't they?

Wonder why they call her Mother?

Found this tidbit:

Bush Record Of Illegalities Suggests Possible Role In 9/11 WTC, Pentagon Strikes

By Sherwood Ross

The trouble with thinking 9/11 was an inside job staged by George W. Bush & Co. is that it defies belief any U.S. president might be capable of such an iniquitous crime against his own people.

Yet, subsequent Bush actions, such as lying the nation into war against Iraq, makes one wonder if the man didn’t create the 9/11 massacres to justify his attacks on Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran.

After all, his record reveals him to be a serial liar, warmonger, tyrant, torturer, and usurper of his peoples’ civil liberties. Just off the top, here are some illegal GWB actions that betray what he is really about.

The head nun in a convent is called Mother. I think Mother Theresa founded her order. That would make her their Mother.

The head nun in my grade school was Mother Adeline. The one in HS was Mother Francis Clare.

Speaking of nuns...if you ever have a chance to see "Late Night Catechism" in a city near you, it's a hoot!

My husband, who was born into a hardshell Baptist family (but went off to one of those secular universities and had an epiphany ;-))) loved the play!

It is playing in Seattle -- it is now the longest running show in Seattle history. Nine years!

It is a one-woman show and is currently playing around the country. Check it out! See if it's near you. Funny!

Dr. B -- the day is relatively young in this time zone!

Still time for a revelation or two....

Den, instead of talking about the science that proves Griffin wrong, I'll just point out the common sense reason he's wrong.
Iraq was the goal, right? If 9/11 was an inside job, they would've left IRAQI identification cards and set up the hotel room and charge card records to IRAQIS, not Saudis in al Qaeda. Why do you think they had to LIE us into Iraq?!! Because if they would've set up Iraq in the first place, EVERYBODY would've been behind attacking Saddam. Remember, Wolfie 'n them wanted to hit Iraq first, but couldn't because the evidence pointed to al Qaeda in Afghanistan. That ol' "cave dwellers couldn't have planned this" is b/s and deflecting from the truth because they weren't in caves until we drove them out of their cush set up with the Taliban, way after the fact.

And finally, how much money do you think Griffin has made on promoting himself and his wacked-out story? He should stick to Theology and quit taking suckers money to the bank.
