Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing: Right here, or here.

Lie, Lie, Lie, like a rug, this fool is gonna swing!

Yesterday the male right-wing stacked SCOTUS made a decision at great cost to our nation's highest court (and to women!) -- that decision damaged the court's integrity, credibility and respect for the rule of law.

Today we have the Attorney General of the United States in a position to further damage our country's (now mythical) claim to being a nation of laws, not of men.

If Al Fredo escapes from the barrel unscathed, we are doomed! (Carol?)

Micki, to ban partial birth abortions WITHOUT regard for the mothers health is ludicrous at best and should not surprise anyone that watched the Repug controlled Congress slide the two biggest self important moralistas, Alito and Roberts onto the bench.

The so-called 'christian' majority is attempting to take over government completely and as such if they gain that much control Roe v Wade will be overturned soon, bet on it.

I would call it Christo-Fascism.

DEN said...

Blackwater is controlled by Christo-Fascists.

micki said...

Den, for starters, it's high time people stopped calling it "partial birth abortion" -- there is no such medical term. That is a political term that was coined by the National Right to Life Committee in 1995 and pushed along by Rep. Charles Canady (R-FL) as part of a bill he proposed that would make it a federal crime to perform a "partial-birth" abortion.

Use of the term is dangerous because one of its purposes is to confuse the public and even doctors -- the term is intended to blur the lines on what will be acceptable for any abortions in the future.

Because the ban refers to a type of procedure rather than a time limit, say 12 weeks, any abortion performed where protecting the health of the mother with a less-invasive D&X would be preferable, is now illegal.

Micki, to ban partial birth abortions...

Well, to call it what the repugs do in their 'talking points' tends to help them, by 'burning' that term into the public's conscious. I prefer the medical term of D and X... dilation and extraction.

I just tuned into c-span a few minutes ago and it seems all hell had broke loose. Was the hearing in a break, did they stop it, or what? All I hear is protesters.

Alan said...

heyyyy
I see Micki beat me to it. Ehh, same point, but hers was much better expressed.

DEN said...

Micki, I stand corrected. Thanks, you obviously are more knowledgeable than I about this subject, I see a SCOTUS which imperils us all in many areas. this being one.

DEN said...

Alan, they are on break till after lunch, 2PM EST, lots of protestors, I saw someone had a sign saying Gonzo resign, lots of yelling too.

What a lying sack of shyt!

Should have fired his ass!

Alan said...

Yeah, thanks Den. C-SPAN explained a little, then started the hearing over again for folks like me that didn't see it 'LIVE'.

Alan said...

This c-span replay is frustrating as hell. There must be thousands and thousands of people logged on and they don't have enough bandwidth... is all I can guess... because it stops (buffering?) and then when it picks up again, I've lost all that was said while it was out. "grrrr" I'll have to watch it again later.

DEN said...

Alan, Got XM? if so go to #132, no breakups there, just no visuals.

DEN said...

Pity Jon Kyles constituents in AZ, he is soooo off topic and prattling about offshore gambling?

WTF? Another Repug moron.

It's the USA firing stoopid!

DEN said...

RNC accounts are part of the Presidential records, so sez Gonzo.

Why isn't this doofus behind bars?

DEN said...

Now Spectre is chatting about the reporting procedure for campus police passed in 1990. WTF?

Repugs attempting to distract and deflect?

Traitors all!

Step up weenies and support your country! Sheesh!

micki said...

RNC accounts are part of the Presidential records, so sez Gonzo.

Huh? Is that claim so they can seal the records?

DEN said...

Sounds like thats what he is trying to claim. Never mind the Hatch act, it's Gonzo's law now.

Feinstein is raking his ass over the coals now!

DEN said...

Orrin Hatch is a major enabler!

Smooch, smooch! Gonzo you are a good boy!

Wake up Repug boy!

DEN said...

This whole debacle makes me feel ill.

The quantity of repug enablers is appalling, stall, divert, distract.

Fire the whole damn bunch and start over!

{ò,ó}arol said...

Don't watch the CNNs. Now that they're past the actual massacre, it's all about the killer's photos, etc. that he sent to NBC. Ooooo, must stop showing the imagines. They're disturbing. They're horrific.

What a joke! A violent country like ours trying to pretend it's disturbed by photos of the killer. Brother. We ARE doomed, Micki. In more ways than one.

DEN said...

Anyone catch Jon Stewart last night with Ali Allawi asking him how they cope with the grief of death, referring to the VA shooting.

They (Iraqis) lose more than 32 EACH DAY, I guess he figured he would be an expert, but he was gratious in his response can be seen here.

Fast connection needed.

DEN said...

Shumer called for Gonzo to resign and Gonzo tried to say the burden of proof was on the committee to prove HE did something wrong.

What a delusional idiot!

DEN said...

Gavel went down, yelling 74 times you said "I don't recall" from someone in the gallery.

Gonzo maintains his innocence? DUH!

Schumer: given contradictions between AG and others that testified it's like Abbott and Costello!
HA!
Who's on first?

DEN said...

I guess the AG is a 'hands off' manager.

Rove and Meirs are in the hotseat next, Schumer said.

After hearing interview,
Schumer said "This is not over"

Said their privilege argument "will not work"

Schumer,"he was not in charge of his department and will not be there much longer".

DEN said...

C-Span has a special page devoted to this fiasco here

carol said...

I saw Jon Stewart last night. He veered from his usual format and had Ali Allawi on earlier and on a lot longer than the usual 6 minutes.

DEN said...

Bee report from my Daughter in northern MN is no bee issues noticed but I insisted she check if she could, her area is soil conservation.

More later.

As long as Gonzo has his clone in the WH (GWB), he will be free to take away our rights.

Gonzo will forever reign!!!

Reuters --- Must cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% in 2050 to have a 50% chance of avoiding dangerous climate change. Developed counties have to cut by 95%.

We ain't gonna make it, gang...

micki said...

Dr. B and the bees are spreading the news,
It may be too late and we're all gonna lose,
Because the greenhouse gas,
Has reached critical mass,
Poor Mother Earth will be singing the blues.

º¿carol said...

There's been no doubt in my mind that nothing will be done about global warming. All "they" do is talk about it. No action.

I think that Reuters is wrong. They say 80% & 95% by 2050. Even if that happened tomorrow it's too late. We're doomed.

º¿carol said...

Both of us at 4:15.

micki said...

We're everywhere, Carol! ;-))

micki said...

The rupture is coming!

micki said...

I think some people are like a neighbor we had when I was a young girl.

He was told he had lung cancer. He had never smoked. So he decided to take it up, because he figured his days were numbered anyway.

That's a true story.

David B. Benson said...

Carol --- Locally CFLs are being installed like mad. That'll help a little.

And if the CO2 cuts occured today, the climate would continue to warm, a bit, for about 20 years and then very, very slowly begin to cool.

But for the U.S. to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 95% by 2050 will require a truely massive effort and expenditure. Does not look good...

micki said...

Carol, some towns are doing things. At our StepItUp rally, we (for those of us who didn't know) found out that our city -- by unanimous decision -- is a "green energy" city. Our hike, bike walking trails interconnect the entire city (well, it's 99% complete), there's an on-going effort to get more CFLs into more homes @ less than $1 a bulb, B'ham has more registered hybrid cars, per capita, than any other city in the nation, etc. etc.

º¿carol said...

Nobody wants to get rid of the combustion engine. It's here until the last drop of oil is sucked out of the ground.

º¿carol said...

What's Las Vegas doing about light bulbs? They have quite a few going day and night.

Carey said...

Good for you Micki. That's a full-time job for some Repugs, designing political terms.

Ginsburg did write in her dissent that this decision is part of a chipping away at Roe and she wanted no part of that kind of judicial activism to change established precedent.

David B. Benson said...

Micki --- So Bellinghamsters don't spend all their time belling hamsters?

:-)

micki said...

I dreamed abortion, gun bullshit, and religion got the hell out of politics.

But...then I woke up.

micki said...

No, sometimes we spend out time bonking squirrels.

Carey said...

Micki and Den,

The RNC emails are not part of the presidential record. Al Fredo was trying to avoid questions about why those accounts were used in the first place I presume.

Asshole knows that. He's lying.

He is gone Micki. There's no way out of this. Right........?

If this were real life he would be.

micki said...

Dr. B -- I just cruised over to Capt's and I have to say, you made me laugh out loud with your pasture ornament comment!

Spot on!

(Would that make him an Appaloosa?)

micki said...

Gawdalmighty, Carey...I hope he's gone. Surreal.

I have not watched the Circus today, but did hear a few soundbites on the radio. Al Fredo sounds like such a whiner. Ick.

Carey said...

I didn't catch the hearing but Randi Rhodes (sp) said it was quite a show. Sure sounds like it from you guys.

I caught a few clips inbetween watching The Matrix on CNN. (Not really watching.) They sure are running it all profusely. Micki, I felt badly for you. What was it, 74 "don't recalls" Den? I thought, if she's watching, she must be going nuts.

Carey said...

Dr. B,

We ain't gonna make it, gang...

I don't want to bum anyone out, but, you're right. Too much to overcome. The human race may fade out.

Carey said...

Leave it to Micki to make a fun limerick out of Dr. B's predictions.

Your talent astounds. Really! These thoughts wouldn't stir me to write a spunky little diddy.

David B. Benson said...

Micki --- My sister doesn't like Appalousas[sic].

But any ol' plug will do for McCain.

And keep bashing those squirrels!

David B. Benson said...

Fifty.

Carey said...

Dr. B. Your just full of piss and vinegar today, aren't you?

So Bellinghamsters don't spend all their time belling hamsters?

Cracked me up.

David B. Benson said...

Carey --- Actually its all the coffee that makes me full of ....

Gotta go!

micki said...

Okay, you've all scattered for the night...but I just ran into THIS (after a great dinner of fresh halibut):

Under fire today, Al Fredo did "recall" one thing -- he "recalled" that he had had discussions about the Iglesias' case....and he said...drum roll, please:

"I now understand that there was a conversation between myself and the president," Gonzales said.

Oy.

Alan said...

Micki's quote...

"I now understand that there was a conversation between myself and the president," Gonzales said.

Of the parts I've seen, ol' Spectre had the best line. He mentioned something to Abu Gonzales about he should be able to answer any questions because he's been preparing for this hearing. Gonzo piped in real quick with "Senator, I prepare for ALL MY HEARINGS." Spectre then quipped back... "And do you prepare for your PRESS CONFERENCES?!" Meaning of course, you lied your azz off there, so you apparently weren't very prepared.
Guess you had to see it.
