China plans to equip its upcoming missiles with infrared technology to give them the ability to hit US warships in Asia, a Japanese newspaper said Wednesday.

The upgrade is part of preparations for a potential conflict over Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory and which has a security pact with the United States, the Sankei Shimbun said.

Citing unnamed military sources in Japan and Taiwan, the conservative newspaper said that China was developing an infrared detection system for its medium-range Dongfeng-21 missiles so they can pinpoint warships.

The upgraded Dongfeng would discourage the United States or Japan from sending in their warships equipped with the Aegis technology designed to shoot down incoming missiles, the newspaper said.

The Dongfeng-21 has a range of some 2,150 kilometers (1,350 miles). The Sankei estimated that around 100 are deployed.

Western analysts have also speculated that China is also developing a next-generation long-range Dongfeng-41 capable of hitting the US mainland.

Beijing has repeatedly threatened to invade Taiwan, where nationalists fled in 1949 after losing the civil war to Mao Zedong's communists, if the island declares formal independence.

The United States and Japan in a first-of-a-kind statement in February 2005 declared that a peaceful resolution of Taiwan Strait issues was a common strategic objective of the Pacific allies.

@ Raw Story

Oh yea sure, we give them all our latest technology, I should clarify that, our corporations give them all our latest technology and this is how we are repaid?

Thug Communistas threatening us over our other corporatista tool Taiwan? which incidentally is another recipient of our technology.

If you have any complaints regarding having your butts blown all over the county by Commie missles, take it up with the corporate headquarters, they started it.

David Corn wrote about Comey's testimony yesterday. This is HUGE!

From Comey's testimony:

COMEY: "I have some recollection that the call was from the president himself, but I don't know that for sure. It came from the White House."

So, Mrs. Ashcroft had blocked ALL calls to her husband's hospital room because he was critically ill -- but this one got through. This call precipitated the meeting in the hospital room, with Andrew Card and Alberto Gonzales strong-arming (my word) a sick man to sign papers for what appears to be authorization for the continuation of illegal activities.

Call your congressperson! It is time for Articles of Impeachment.

Are We Still Surprised?

With Bush Administration incompetence, when it rains it pours. Not only was Dr. Eric Keroac, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Population Affairs an opponent of birth control. Not only had he mis-represented the length of time he'd been an OBGYN. Not only had his certification lapsed. And now only did he step down amid an emerging scandal involving Medicaid fraud.

It turns out, he hadn't even been at the job his resume said was his top qualification. If this is true, I don't know whether to be horrendously disturbed at the lack of attention in hiring practices, or thoroughly unsurprised that cronyism and ideology trumped qualifications once again:

A Woman’s Concern’s tax records show no mention of him during the six-year period he was supposed to have been the medical director. As a non-profit, AWC is required to list all employees and contractors who are paid more than $50,000 per year.

Mark Conrad, the president of A Woman’s Concern, said that Dr. Keroack was only a part-time volunteer with the organization and simultaneously rented an office at one of their facilities.

With this type of person dealing with population issues, it's all the more critical that groups like Planned Parenthood get the support of Working Assets and its customers.

At least Brownie had actually served as Commissioner of the Arabian Horse Association. I mean he had done a bad job, but at least he wasn't a liar.

Is somebody keeping a list of these guys?

So, Mrs. Ashcroft had blocked ALL calls to her husband's hospital room because he was critically ill -- but this one got through.

Micki, it was Mrs. Ashcroft who called Comey to tell him that Card and Gonzo were on their way there. Comey went tearing azz to the hospital with sirens blaring, to get there before they did. All this came out in the live blog at FireDogLake yesterday. Comey had refused to re-authorize the illegal spying so they were gonna pressure Ashcroft from his sick bed. To his credit Ashcroft refused to sign. Bush's bunch went ahead and re-authorized the spying WITHOUT the AG's signoff on it and Comey, Mueller, and many top aides were going to do a mass resignation. Ashcroft's cheif-of-staff called Comey to ask him to please hold off on the resignation until Ashcroft was well enough to resign with him! Only after Comey's private meeting with Bush, and his suggested private meeting with Mueller too, did Bush agree to bring the program under FISA and prevent the resignations. The point there was that side-stepping the goon squad of bush's boys was the only way to get through to our idiot president that what he was doing was ILLEGAL.

bush didn't care if it was illegal. He's the decider. He's the commander guy.

I'm serious. He didn't care! One reason Al Fredo is his boy at DoJ is because they make their own rules. They just wanted to avoid mass resignations -- because it would look bad politically.

I want to know what information they wanted so bad they would do whatever it took to get it.

This week in Manchester, N.H. Rudy Giuliani said if a “Democrat” were elected president in 2008, America would be risking another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept 11, 2001. This threat comes from the man who was closest to the demolition of the Towers in NYC and should know.

micki said...

Here's something to ponder...the man who tried to coerce a critically ill man, in a hospital bed, in an intensive care unit, to sign a LEGAL DOCUMENT that would reauthorize the continuation of ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, is now the Attorney General of the United States of America.

Something's rotten, and it's not in Denmark!

And on another corrupt note;

Congressman Has Personal Stake in XM-Sirius Merger

By Brendan McGarry

WASHINGTON, May 14, 2007 – U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., could potentially benefit from a merger between satellite radio companies XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. and Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc., public documents show.

The 53-year-old Issa is the co-founder of Vista, Calif.-based Directed Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DEIX), a security and entertainment systems-manufacturer and a major supplier of Sirius satellite radios. He served as president and chief executive officer of the company until 2000, when he was elected to Congress.

At the end of that year, Issa and his wife, Kathy, sold their controlling interest in Directed Electronics to Trivest, Inc., a private equity firm based in Miami. Through his charitable trust, the Issa Family Foundation, he retains a four percent minority stake in Directed Electronics, and sits on the company's board of directors, according to the company's 2007 proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

After seeking written guidance from the House Ethics Committee about a potential conflict of interest in the merger, Issa will abstain from any committee or floor vote on the issue in the future, Dale Neugebauer, his chief of staff, said Friday.

"The congressman will be recusing himself on votes in the committee and House related to the XM-Sirius merger," Neugebauer said.

But during a Feb. 28 hearing about the merger by the House Judiciary Committee's Antitrust Task Force on the merger, Issa didn't mention his request to the Ethics Committee, or his business connections to Sirius. He sits on the task force, and participated in the hearing.

When asked why Issa hadn't revealed his business connections, Neugebauer said, "It's very public knowledge that the congressman is the founder of Directed Electronics." He also cited Issa's previous experience in leadership positions with industry trade associations.

Perhaps best known as a leader in the push to recall California Gov. Gray Davis in 2003, Issa is the second-richest member of the House, with an estimated net worth of between $135 million and $677 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. He was a past chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association and member of the board of governors for the Electronics Industry Alliance.

The decomposition of the MSM press is the topic of this article(PDF).

Bleak picture of the current media.

micki said...

Den, I think they were spying on the Dems and on the media -- it was an election year and General Rove and the rest of the Rethuglicans were in panic mode.

I mean Ashcroft was a zealot when it came to TERRORISM -- if the syping was down to hunt down terrorists and the push to reinstate the program was about terrorism, why would Ashcroft balk? Ashcroft may be many things (including a religious nut), but he may actually believe in the rule of law, so he refused to reauthorize illegal activity.

This is a potential bombshell. (Or should be!!)

I see Chuck Hagel said today that Al Fredo must resign.

I went back and re-read the article posted earlier, Jan 1 NYT, and did not see a time correlation to the election, must have been something else important enough to ram it through.

And if not, why not?

Intent to circumvent FISA is aggravated by the methods used with Ashcroft while hospitalized.

DEN said...

Commission of the crime was when they went ahead approved their own wiretapping anyway, Acting AG Comey told them no, then they tried to get Ashcroft to sign off, he told them to go see Comey.

There were too many things going on for the repugs not to want inside information(Premeditation).
The election, they were under fire for 9/11 response, Move was being attacked by the RNC for taking ilegal contributions, all kinds of reasons to go snooping.

Breaking news: U.S. F-16s unleash “shock and awe” on South Jersey... about the fires started by an Air Force plane dropping a flare. The linked article says the A/F is already knocking on doors offering cash for damages... ala Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan collateral damage. ugh!
I seen a clip on the big fires during ABC's national news this evening. It's bad.

Also, Den, did you see the 19-minute clip of Comey's testimony at Crooks? It's very impressive, and shows integrity and 'country first' that's so lacking the last 6 years.

The Carpetbagger Report lists the lowlights in Falwell's life/career. Micki's quote is among 'em near the end.

When others who attended the White House event insisted that the exchange never happened, Falwell responded that his account “was not intended to be a verbatim report,” but rather an “honest portrayal” of Carter’s position.

I've been going through the interesting pictures on a couple sites and couldn't resist posting this one.

still hauling out tons of "dust" from ground zero on March 15, 2002

There's alot more at the site, and I wasn't even looking for anything in particular, just looking at all they had... but proving yet again how silly (and stupid and wacked name a couple adjectives that apply) James is. He's back to holograms of the planes, so I coulda linked a picture of airplane parts collected... uhmmm, planted, haha... on nearby roofs and streets close to ground zero. That woulda been some slick-azz conspirators to get those faked evidence parts in place, timely and without being seen too!

LMAO Sometimes I tickle myself. Ol' James is always good for a laugh.
K, check out these two sites... one is FEMA, the other tends toward conspiracy views, but their pictures are good, no matter how stupid their interpretations are.
