DEBKAfile Exclusive: New Al Qaeda threat of radioactive truck attacks naming New York, Los Angeles, Miami

August 12, 2007, 8:48 AM (GMT+02:00)

The threat was picked up by DEBKAfile’s monitors from a rush of electronic chatter on al Qaeda sites Thursday, Aug. 8.

The al Qaeda communications accuse the Americans of the grave error of failing to take seriously the videotape released by the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gaddahn last week. “They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations,” said one message.

Another said the attacks would be carried out “by means of trucks loaded with radio-active material against America’s biggest city and financial nerve center.”

A third message mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets. It drew the answer: “The attack, with Allah’s help, will cause an economic meltdown, many dead, and a financial crisis on a scale that compels the United States to pull its military forces out of many parts of the world, including Iraq, for lack of any other way of cutting down costs.”

There is also a message which speaks obliquely of the approaching attacks easing the heavy pressure America exerts on countries like Japan, Cuba and Venezuela.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources and monitors say there is no way of gauging for sure how serious these threats are, how real, or whether they are part of a war of nerves to give the Gaddahn tape extra mileage. But it is important to note that the exchange of messages took place over al Qaeda’s internal Internet sites and that they contained the threat of radioactive terror and specific American cities for the first time after a long silence on these subjects.

In addition, a growing number of clips has been disseminated of late over al Qaeda sites instructing the faithful how to design remote-controlled gliders, pack them with explosives and launch them against predetermined targets.

August 13, 2007, 9:19 PM (GMT+02:00)

At midnight Thursday, Aug. 9, DEBKAfile’s monitors of terrorist Web sites and forums connected the messages accumulating from midday. They spelled out an al Qaeda threat mentioning New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets of attacks “by means of trucks loaded with radioactive material.” Our counter-terror sources and monitors stressed “there is no way of gauging for sure how serious these threats are, or how real.”

Monday, Aug. 13, the chatter continues.

Such disclosures are the daily content of DEBKAfile – not only about al Qaeda, but terrorist organizations in the Middle East and other parts of the world. We believe that holding back such information would be irresponsible and wrong and possibly expose people in targeted countries, most predominantly the United States and Israel, to danger. After this data is aired on our free site, our job is done and it is up to the relevant security authorities to decide how to deal with it.

In this case, the New York Police Department very properly responded.

After 24 hours, during which time the department almost certainly put its vast resources to work to research and assess the DEBKAfile disclosure, security was increased throughout Manhattan and on tunnels and bridges, with radioactivity sensors posted on vehicles, boats and helicopters.

The New York police came up with a further piece of information which was not sourced to DEBKA suggesting that a dirty bomb may go off on Friday evening around 34th Street in Manhattan, where the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden and Macy’s department store are located.

At that point, something quite irrational happened: The NYPD’s sensible precautions generated a flood of media recriminations against… DEBKAfile. Unbridled, gratuitous assaults on this publication’s credibility came from the publications which missed the story, prominently Associated Press, the International Herald Tribune and FoxNews.

Reuters, to its credit, covered the episode fairly and professionally.

With regard to DEBKAfile’s record, our readers may recall that in 2003, our counter-terror sources exposed the massive recruitment campaign al Qaeda ran worldwide for an army of jihadis to fight US forces in Iraq under the command of a Jordanian terrorist called Abu Musab al Zarqawi.

Again, in 2005 - and up until the present - we warned that al Qaeda was building networks in Egyptian Sinai and the Gaza Strip.

Had the powers-that-be responded in timely fashion to these advance alerts, the situation in both troubled places might have evolved differently.

Pretty scary stuff indeed. Sure looks like something is brewing and like DEBKA I believe the dissemination of this information is critical.

I already suspect deadeye sent out another contract with his pals in SA to wreak havoc beyond 9/11 scale in order to fully set their plans into motion, and as with 9/11 the real culprits will not be known to us ordinary citizens, we can only guess.

Something is up and I do not trust deadeye and his evil band of scoundrels, why set up headquarters for Halliburton in SA? Hiding from what? with America under military lockdown it would be nearly impossible to do business here, and make money.

America the beautiful soon to be a devastated land and a prison for those unfortunate enough to be ensnared in totalitarian rule.

Call me a nattering nabob of negativity but I don't feel real good right now,
neither should anyone else. The scourge that is deadeye dick and his merry band of fascshit criminals is still in the WH despite committing high crimes and misdemeanors against The Constitution and the United States does not leave one with a real sense of security.

Cold blooded killers, without conscience.

My rose-colored glasses fog up at the mention of Adam "Gadahn" video exploits.

WRH has been claiming this "Al CIA-duh Spokesman" is really the son of a high-ranking Israel-Firster for the past couple of years.

I waffle (mmmm Waffles!) between expecting an "operation" and thinking that the Drumbeat of fear IS the operation.

"..nothing to fear but FEAR ITSELF" takes on new meaning. Is the FEAR, itself, the primary object? When the FEAR abates does it obviate the need for a REAL operation?

FEAR is the mortar that made Bushco's blueprints become brick walls.

I've heard between the lines of the Repugnant candidates speach.

"We need to keep fearing more greatly, if we're to keep running the show," they all seem to be saying.

Hajji, I am too keenly aware of the FEAR factor and the use thereof to scare the masses into their holding pens called homes.

I can only speculate as to what if anything will happen, but put the story to a greater audience in the hope that someone/anyone can refute it.

My fear is of losing the country I grew up in to a scurvy band of highly placed officials with world domination in mind(PNAC).

The possibility of another "big bang" causing major death and destruction would signal that all we hold dear would be gone.

The H-town Chronicle published David Corn's article on the op-ed page today. That's a first, as far as I can tell. I mean... I've been reading the paper a looooong time, and David Corn for quite awhile now, and I don't ever remember seeing him in there b4.

Sorry, Karl, but you can't just cut and run right now

A lying cheating AJ gets to decide who lives and dies and when?

Under the rules now being prepared, if a state requested it and Gonzales agreed, prosecutors could use “fast track” procedures that could shave years off the time that a death row inmate has to appeal to the federal courts after conviction in a state court.

The move to shorten the appeals process and effectively speed up executions comes at a time of growing national concern about the fairness of the death penalty, underscored by the use of DNA testing to establish the innocence of more than a dozen death row inmates in recent years.

@ Common Dreams

This of course seems to be setting the part of the plan in place that keeps the little people in line.

Cross the fascshits and get the chair, now sooner than ever.

ACLU Letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales Requesting A Meeting on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act

Today, my staff was briefed by the Justice Department regarding guidelines to institute the new foreign to domestic wiretapping authority Congress granted to you this month by The Protect America Act.

Regrettably, my colleagues reported that they learned virtually nothing new about how you intend to use the broad new authority to intercept emails and phone calls...

I Would Not Be President

Dear Posters:

In my book I wrote an article, “If I Was President.” I shared some idealistic fantasies of helping to be part of a better Nazi America. The truth is that I will never run for political office of any kind. Let me give you some reasons and one specific one.

I will start with the specific reason. When I was in my twenties, I had a chance to talk to a person whom I respected about politics. He said to me that to run for political office you would have to sell your soul to the devil. With your soul in the devil’s possession you are that much closer to eternal damnation. That is my specific reason for not wanting to a politician. To be president is probably a certainty for damnation.

There are other reasons. Let me share some with you! Georgie and Dickie are mirror images of most Nazi Americans. I would not want to be like them. Nazi Americans do not believe in Jesus Christ. Our religious institutions are political ideologues. We have turned our backs on Jesus Christ.

Nazi American elections are filled with fraud. I would preside over covert operations to overturn foreign governments. I would have to use the poor, the lower middle class, and the middle class sons and daughters as cannon fodder to protect the lifestyles of the rich and powerful sons and daughters. I would also preside over selfish Nazi Americans to insure that they keep receiving huge tax breaks to increase their wealth and widen the gap between the rich and poor.

I would have to lie, commit mass murders, war crimes, and torture God’s sons and daughters. As president I would have to enslave Nazi Americans and most of the world populations. I would do these horrid things just to be a politician or a president. Never!!!

I would not be president to preside over an empire of SNIVELING AND SPOILED BRATS.

A Disneyland of Militant Ignorance

Who would want to be president in Nazi America where mass murders are considered normal behavior?

To survive as a republic, a great many American idols will have to topple, and not only those inane, fame-obsessed clowns and crooners sharp-elbowing each other on the Fox Network's televised exercises in Pop Stardom for Dummies. As far as idolatry goes, by far the most pervasive, ruinous, and in need of toppling is the position of unquestioning worship the US military holds in American life. One would think that after the Götterdämmerung of macho folly we've witnessed over the past half-decade that the country would have had its fill of self-proclaimed alpha male posturing and adolescent-minded, military hagiography.

Mission of Peace

Gerald said...

It was a blessing to have Roy with us. One of the leading voices for peace in the nation, and one of the best organizers as well, he grew up in a small town outside New Orleans, joined the military, fought in Vietnam, received the Purple Heart, befriended a wise missionary, and returned home to begin a new journey of peace. He entered Maryknoll, was sent to Bolivia, and served for years in a barrio. Later, he worked in El Salvador and Central America. Back home, he made "Gods of Metal," the groundbreaking video about nuclear weapons which was nominated for an Academy award. His amazing journey has been chronicled in the fine biography, Disturbing the Peace (Orbis Books).

Gerald said...

Roy is Jesus' disciple for peace!!!

In the late 1980s, he and two friends climbed a tree outside the barracks of the School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Ga., where hundreds of Salvadoran soldiers were being trained. That night, after the lights went out, Roy turned a tape player on and broadcast the last sermon of Archbishop Oscar Romero, calling upon El Salvador's soldiers to "stop the repression, stop the killing, and disobey orders to kill." Roy was arrested and spent considerable time in prison for that act. Altogether, he has spent over four and a half years of his life behind bars.

School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia trains foreign leaders and foreign militia to kill and maim and torture dissenters of a country.

And, we still believe that Nazi America is a good, holy, and saintly empire.

Truck-loads of radioactive materials?

Hard to come by, methinks.

DEN said...

"by means of trucks loaded with radioactive material."

What kind and how much? What constitutes "loaded" beside too many beers.

That statement is ambiguous to say the least, Doc, I agree.

However with the former Soviet Union and even labs here in the USA missing quantities of nuclear material and the availability of bomb making info right here on the internets, how sure can one be about the ability of ONE intelligent person to construct a rudimentary nuclear weapon?

They did not clarify "loaded" as to 'on board', 'packed with' or one nuclear device and that I believe was intentional.

Betcha deadeye dick knows.

David B. Benson said...

Making an A-bomb is very difficult.

Making a truck bomb to spread radioactive materials is not.

Obtaining significant qualities of radioactive materials is.

Boy, what a time to lose the Internet(s) and cable! Yesterday morning we LOST CONTACT with the world! ;-) At first I thought it could be that a squirrel chewed through our innertube to the Internet(s), but nope! We were "disconnected in error!" One of our neighbors called in to get disconnected, but Comcast severed us instead. But...here I am again.

As I said earlier, fear is a renewable resource.

When General Rove and his merry band of democracy trouncers figured out that the old reliable wedge issues (gays, abortions, gun rights) were going the way of the do-do, they decided (accurately) that they needed new wedge issues to stay in power. They decided that TERROR AND WAR were the perfectly matched duo-issues, . They are successfully using war and terror to divide us -- they scare just enough (Dem) politicians into submission to get what they need and scare the American sheeple into thinking they keep America safer than the pussy Dems would.

Not much scares me any more except maybe being upside down on a loopty-loop on an old, rickety roller-coaster.

Finding heavy quantities of radioactive material is very easy. Bush's CIA will supply the terrorists with this material to carry out a terrorist act inside Nazi America so Hitler can draw us closer to declaring martial law. It will be upon us soon but I do not know the date, time, and place.

I was watching History International and the comparison between Viet Nam and Iraq are strikingly similar. We carry out inside covert acts to train and draw down governments. We train our enemies to fight against our enemies and than they turn on us. I call that poetic justice.

Let us not forget that our weaponry is being used against our soldiers!!! Only in Nazi America!!!!!

From watching History International I have concluded once again that wars are stupid and started by brain dead rulers. Insane rulers start wars!!!

We are the leading terrorist nation in the world with the School of the Americas stationed in Fort Benning Georgia. But, we are fed crap like mushrooms that we are good, holy, and saintly numbnuts.

Dear Den,

I don't trust Alberto Gonzales with the power to spy on the American people – and neither should you.

In recent months, Gonzales has been under increasingly heavy fire for his shameful role in a number of shocking scandals, including the Bush Administration's illegal eavesdropping program and his refusal to come clean about what he has done. He's lost the confidence of the American people, and many -- myself included -- have called for his resignation.

But rather than holding Gonzalez and other members of the Administration accountable for breaking the law, the White House pushed for legislation that legalizes their actions. Two weeks ago, the Bush Administration and their rubber-stamp Republican allies in Congress forced revisions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to expand the government's right to spy on American citizens without outside oversight.

Once again, George Bush, Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzalez are taking the Bill of Rights into their own hands. Tell the White House to stop scaring the American people into surrendering their basic rights:

There's no doubt FISA had serious gaps that Congress needed to close. But as the New York Times stated, the new FISA law goes "far beyond the small fixes that administration officials had said were needed to gather information about foreign terrorists."

Under the new law, any conversation between an American citizen and a foreigner can be monitored without a warrant.

Any conversation at all!

But even worse, there's no accountability for this massive new surveillance program. The Bush Administration will set the rules about who gets spied on, and will also have the responsibility for determining whether they're complying with their own rules.

It's like taking a test, and then getting to grade it yourself.

Each of us wants to do everything in our power to protect America from the threat of terrorism. But the Bush Administration refuses to draw any line between fighting terrorism and violating basic civil liberties.

Together, we can draw the line. Sign the petition, letting Washington know that you don't want Alberto Gonzales spying on honest, hard-working Americans like you:

This is the same Administration mentality that gave us Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. Again and again, Alberto Gonzalez, Dick Cheney, and George Bush have thumbed their noses at the Constitution and the rule of law, and then demanded that Congress condone their abuses and trust their judgment.

Not this time. We owe the nation a better approach, and you can help us do it.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy

U.S. Weighing TERRORIST LABEL for Iran Guards

WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 — The Bush administration is preparing to declare that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps is a foreign terrorist organization, senior administration officials said Tuesday.

If imposed, the declaration would signal a more confrontational turn in the administration’s approach to Iran and would be the first time that the United States has added the armed forces of any sovereign government to its list of terrorist organizations.

The Revolutionary Guard is thought to be the largest branch of Iran’s military. While the United States has long labeled Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, a decision to single out the guard would amount to an aggressive new challenge from an American administration that has recently seemed conflicted over whether to take a harder line against Tehran over its nuclear program and what American officials have called its destabilizing role in Iraq.

According to European diplomats, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has warned of the move in recent conversations with European counterparts, saying that a delay in efforts to win approval from the United Nations Security Council for further economic sanctions on Iran was leaving the administration with little choice but unilateral action.
