Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990), born in Dallas, Texas, was an American blues guitarist. His broad appeal made him one of the world's most influential electric blues guitarists. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Stevie Ray Vaughan #7 in their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.[1] He was the younger brother of Jimmie Vaughan.

Den,

I was fortunate (as I seem to be, in this life) to have met SRV in Orlando not long after an extended rehab stint. (his, not mine)

Just an off-the-cuff evening, unplanned, I ran into someone I used to work with in IATSE. We were hangin' out by the load-out and up comes the MAN...little guy...HYOOOGE hands.

We talked for a good 15 minutes or so before he was mobbed by a largish contingent of worshipers. He stayed and signed autographs, took pictures with fans for an hour or more.

Man had the BLUES upon him, and he showed the world a new standard for guitarists, something not done since the early daze of Clapton, Page and Hendrix.

Like all lights that burn too brightly, his was extinguished far too soon.

Executive Summary & Introduction

There is considerable international discussion that the confrontation between Iran and the international community over its nuclear programme may change in character into a major war between Iran and either US or Israel or both in conjunction with allies such as the United Kingdom. This study uses open source analysis to outline what the military option might involve if it were picked up off the table and put into action. The study demonstrates that an attack can be massive and launched with surprise rather than merely a contingency plan needing months if not years of preparation.
The study considers the potential for US and allied war on Iran and the attitude of key states. The study concludes that the US has made military preparations to destroy Iran’s WMD, nuclear energy, regime, armed forces, state apparatus and economic infrastructure within days if not hours of President George W. Bush giving the order. The US is not publicising the scale of these preparations to deter Iran, tending to make confrontation more likely.

@ RAW STORY

Israel sees Iran as a threat to it's existence so it calls on the US to bomb them back to the second century.

Israel HAS Nukes already.WHY??????

Deadeye and his dummy are STILL in charge. WHY???????

Kiss the planet goodbye unless someone runs those two death merchants out of DC. ASAP!!!!!

Hajji, Lucky Dude!!!

Heaven wanted him and Earth could not keep him.

You thought the Iraq war was immoral and illegal?

Wait till they hit Iran without considering the consequences.

Polluting the Earth and killing and maiming thousands, those boys sure know how to screw stuff up.

Cuff 'em and stuff 'em before it's too late!!!!

Is this is a pure case of misplaced priorities or a statement of the stupidity of the American public??

DEN said...

Worthwhile cause?

I'm not sure.

TRUTH-O-METER -- See which candidates' pants are on fire! Great idea!

I know this isn't the biggest story of the day, but I really get tired of their hypocrisy.

There once was a senator who had to explain,
I was making a "connection," just catching a plane,
I was taking a leak,
Not taking a peek,
But now my career is flushed down the drain.

Wow Hajji. That's a priceless anecdote.

Micki --- Great!

Craig is a local Repug. Maybe my neighbors to the east will find a responsible replacement, not just another Repug...

DEN said...

DJIA -280 today, in case anyone was wondering what that screeching noise was.

It's a fuzz above 13000 at the close.

Carey said...

Yes Micki. It's the effin hyprocrisy! These are truly god-fearing men who go out there and lie their heads off and display false bravado about an "evil" that plagues our land. Shoot, these congressmen's levels of cognitive disequilibrium must be skyrocketing. No wonder it manifests in deviant behavior.

I saw a clip of a speech Bush gave today. It's happending again folks. They'll turn Petreus' report into a call for surge level troops to stay. It's just like last year with the Baker Report. The speechs start. Last year it was on a possible surge and it's benefits. This year, instead of withdrawal, once again, we turn even further from that end point. We're starting with elevated troop levels. Now, the argument is over whether to maintain the surge levels.

We've lost ground.

When I saw the clip, a whole deja vu thing came over me. Micki regaled Carol with a littany of Repugs who came out wavering on their support of Bush and Iraq last year. It's the same thing all over again. The only thing new is that the surge levels must remain constant.

He was not only taking a leak. Loved the limmerick Micki. Apparently he played some sort of foot-code footsies. You put your foot at a 45 degree angle. Craig's office responded by saying that's just his "stance".

I'm not kidding.

Carey said...

No, no. Okay, now what was it? Maybe that was Craig's response when police asked why he engaged in the "foot-code" (apparently of sexual deviants in male bathrooms--I don't know!).

micki said...

Well, Carey -- since there's a whole lot of guessing going on about who is going to replace whom and when, here's more of my guesses.

Ayad Allawi is going to replace Nouri al-Maliki soon after the BETRAYUS REPORT is trotted out. The report will say that Maliki is a fine guy, but the country needs new leadership so that the surge can "continue to make progress" and bring a higher level of security to the Iraqi people.

Allawi has hired ole Haley Barbour as his lobbyist in Washington to nail down the prime minister slot. He can't win the PM office in Iraq, so hell...go to the bosses in D.C. and schmooze 'em, they make the decisions anyway.

My other guess is that bush is going to make a recess appointment for AG or just let Paul Clement run out the clock as interim AG. NO WAY DOES THE CHENEYBUSH ADMINISTRATION WANT CONFIRMATION HEARINGS! The hearings would be bruising and they would run the risk of many, many, many deep dark secrets tumbling out into the open.

The only way they could avoid a battle royal in confirmation hearings is for bush to nominate a thoroughly clean, non-bush loyalist. And that ain't likely to happen.

I hate that our government is so dysfunctional.

micki said...

Carey -- I read that about the footsie game. Learn something new everyday....

Okay guys...tell us. Have you ever seen this going on it men's rooms?

micki said...

Dr. B -- I hope they find a good replacement, too.

Let's see...long ago there were guys like Frank Church available in Idaho.

Howdy to y,all: I caught Stevie Ray at the Broken Spoke back when there were dudes that knew how to tickle then thar strings! It really was comparible to the Hendrix gig in Monteray back when nobody wore cowboy hats. What a trip that was fer sure. Bootboy !!!!!!!

Carey said...

Micki. You would make a million bucks if your marketed some of the titles you come up with: BETRAYUS REPORT.

Carey said...

Howdy Nony.

Is this Nony 1 or Nony 2?

micki said...

Carey -- I love coming up with neologisms!

micki said...

I read that Senator Mike Crapo (Repug-Idaho) has come to Larry Craig's defense. He "takes him at his word."

I have to admit, I didn't know the other Idaho Repug Senator is named CRAPO.

David B. Benson said...

Well, done enuf damage for today.

Beer time...

Carey said...

Senator Mike Crapo.

Sh^t. That is too funny. Another new name!

Sen. Crapo, a generic term for most current senators.

Carey said...

I'm here to quickly report that Mike Malloy is confirming his suspicions match Micki's thinking. Definitely, he thinks you're accurate on Allawi. They figure he's a better puppet.

Malloy is no slouch I've found.

micki said...

Carey --I've never heard Mike Malloy. Only know his name...AAR, right?

I came back to the blog for another reason....

micki said...

Dr. B -- I just read this in the Journey, the AAA travel magazine, speaking of beer time....

44.3....Total weight, in millions of pounds of HOPS produced in Washington State in 2006, about 77 percent of the U.S. total of 57.6 million pounds

Most of those hops are from your corner of the state, right?

micki said...

Oh, BTW, reports are that bu$h'$ fundrai$ing trip yesterday for Dave Reichert (Repuke-WA) in Bellevue raked in $500,000!!

But, the local news didn't shy away from airing video of very lovely young women PROTESTING in "evening gowns" with printed banner ribbons a la Miss America over their shoulders that read "I MISS AMERICA."

Great visuals!

Former Chief of NIST's Fire Science Division Calls for Independent Review of World Trade Center Investigation

James Quintiere, Ph.D., former Chief of the Fire Science Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has called for an independent review of NIST’s investigation into the collapses of the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11.

"collapses"...as if!
this building has lost more than half it's height - but where has that mass gone?

I must have led a sheltered life. Playing footsie for me has always thought to be floor play with a woman.

I guess we are all living in a different time and a different era.

I have always believed that Americans really cared about people but since the early 1970's I have come to the conclusion that Nazi America is evil, vile, and wicked.

I am now left with shattered memories of America.
