Carey and Brandon wish everyone Happy Holidays!!

I took a picture of myself but the camera broke so I took the hint instead and gave up.
Besides she is a lot cuter and he is more handsome anyway, maybe next year. Thanks Carey for sharing your holiday season with us all here at DWF!

5 days left in 2007 including what is left of this one, then the fine champagne will flow across the world, fireworks, and a ball drop in NYC will be signaling an end to 2007.

I would do a year in review but to me it is just too depressing to look back. Let it be said that 2007 was the year of people in charge of things that had no business being in charge of anything.
Finding a silver lining became more difficult for those seeking reassurance. Finding anything that made sense followed the same path.

Looking forward brings more hope for a real change with 2008 being an election year. Whether said election brings forward any representative government with the stones to correct 8 years of faulty rule by a tin-horn dictator remains to be seen. My hopes have been dashed on the rocks so many time already their barely recognizable anyway.

Hope for peace in the world among all it's inhabitants and hopefully we can stem the Global Warming tide.

Bad news out of Pakistan today:

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on Thursday in a gun and bomb attack as she left an election rally in the city of Rawalpindi.

State media and her party confirmed her death.

"She has been martyred," said party official Rehman Malik.

Bhutto, 54, died in hospital in Rawalpindi. Ary-One Television said she had been shot in the head.

Police said a suicide bomber fired shots at Bhutto as she was leaving the rally venue in a park before blowing himself up.

"The man first fired at Bhutto's vehicle. She ducked and then he blew himself up," said police officer Mohammad Shahid.

Police said 16 people had been killed in the blast, which occurred during campaigning for a January 8 national election. It is unclear if the poll will now go ahead.

"It is the act of those who want to disintegrate Pakistan because she was a symbol of unity. They have finished the Bhutto family. They are enemies of Pakistan," senior Bhutto party official Farzana Raja told Reuters.

Oh great, is everyone in the M.E. raving religious lunatics?

Takes one to know one:

President Bush called the attack that killed former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto "cowardly," and offered his condolences to mourners.

carey said...

Well, shit, we did know it was coming. They made no bones about it really. She was a goner if she stayed in Pakistan.

What a holy mess.

She knew too, damn it. This is just awful.

carey said...

That's my boy there! Isn't he handsome!!!!????

carey said...

He gets that from his Dad.

I saw that headline this morning and gasped! It was like a gut punch! There is no hope for this world. Too many insane people running around and too many insane people running everything. This reminded me of Indira and didn't her son get it, too, eventually?

carey said...

Carol,

Exactly, a gut punch. It's all playing out as can be expected. We don't really know alot about Pakistan. But this can't be good for humanity.

And there's the added element of her being a woman leader in an Islamic country. Oy, there's some grist there!

A woman leader, period. That adds all the other complications to trying to analyze how we let this happen.

Not good at all.

Uhm, Carol, do you mean Nero Ghandi? I don't think he was assasinated. Well, I don't know.

Nice picture, Carey!

I asked you for a couple pictures awhile ago and you sent me old pictures. Send me something more current, like this one. I stole it from this site but it's not full-sized.

Brandon is a handsome kid. I sure like long hair! Always did, always will. My son had long hair all through school and afterward for years. Gone now. *sniff*

carey said...

As I sit back and sip coffee, it dawns that this is really very, very serious.

I cannot believe we allowed this to happen. Man, we're a bad lot.

Carol and I have discussed our adoration of male long hair. You know where it comes from, the sixties. But it's real.

Long hair on a male can be very virile.

Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister and was assassinated in May 1991.

Alan said...

Wow Carey, that's a great picture of you guys!

It was Rajiv who was assassinated in '92.

WTF???

From Reuters:

Gold, bonds up on Bhutto, weak data.

U.S. gold hits 1-month high on dollar, Bhutto death.

Oil rises $1 on Bhutto killing, U.S. inventory fall.

Market falls with financials, Bhutto assassination.

???The money whores are raking it in???

Alan said...

ack! It was '91, like Carol said BEFORE me. I shoulda hit 'refresh' before posting to see if anyone 'beat me to it'.

carol said...

Are you saying they're making money off the assassination?

DEN said...

Yup!

This sick twisted world we live in just got more sick and twisted.

Oil prices jump? any excuse.

Gold and bonds up? Thieves!

Alan said...

There was also an assassination attempt on Sharif. But of course it wasn't Mushie doing all this to get rid of his rivals... surely not.

4 Sharif supporters killed in shooting near Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least four supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were killed Thursday when unidentified gunmen fired at his party's procession in the outskirts of Islamabad, local press reports said.

Carol, I am not a financial wizard but this is how it works in our evil country. Killing, torture, and maiming in our country and throughout the world is good news and so the market goes up. Please take a look at our attack on Iraq. The market goes up, especially the oil market. Chapter One of my book discusses corporations and how they benefit in times of crises.

Please keep in mind that the market goes up in times of chaos and mayhem in Nazi America. People are happy and they will invest more money in mass murders and crimes against humanity.

Carol said...

One of the posters on that site, Den, blamed the Bush administration along with Musharraf.

carol said...

What her death had to do with a barrel of oil is beyond me.

The only way they could make money off the death of a political person like Bhutto in MY book, is that 'they' all have wagers placed on all the heads of countries around the world.

micki said...

Carey, you and Brandon light up the room!

Great photo of both of you. Thanks for sharing.

No person or group has claimed responsibility for her assassination. Not likely anyone will. A puppet government keeps its mouth.

I have to still read everyone, but I can see you're just as bothered by this as me. Sitting at home watching all of this unfold, one has to think, this is really a very bad situation.

It does not bode well for anything. A harbinger of nothing but trouble ahead.

All we know about Pakistan can fit in a pinky nail. We have no idea what this means. They're blaming Al Queda.

Thanks for all the compliments. You know I fished for 'em. My long-haired boy is my pride and joy!!! Reason d'etre.

Now all of you have to do the same with your kids, pets and whatnot.

Wow, Den, you guys are so clever. How did you find that live stream from Pakistan?

You can tell I'm up on my Indian history. I was way off base.

Bhutto knew if she stayed in the country, she would be killed. She did the martyr thing for a reason. She didn't want to run from the fight.

Bhutto knew she was going to die.

When will it become clear to us that the unspeakable is now the norm?

Carey said...

She did it to finger Mussarof (sp).

"...and his minions." She prefingered them.

This is icky to ponder.

DEN said...

Carey, for the sake of argument when does it make sense for someone to die for a lost cause? Democracy and Theocracy cannot co-exist.

Muslims teach to kill all their(percieved)enemies, per the Koran, she and many others are enemies, the ME is full of them, these idiots like killing and suiciding. The whole world is at risk as long as this holds true.

The way I see it is until religious extremists are dealt with there will be more and more killing for nothing.

I am fed up to here with religion that promotes 'martyrs' and killing, there will be no peace on Earth until religion is put back in their respective churches and kept there.

I hate stupidity and that place is overrun with religious stupids.

Rough road ahead

Dear Den,

The studios thought they could cross their arms and ignore the writers until financial hardship set in and they gave up.

They didn't count on the fact that this time, the writers didn't need "big media" to get their message out. This time, they have the internet.

Thank you for sending emails to the network executives in charge of your favorite shows and letting them know that it's time to give the writers a fair share. So far, nearly 20,000 emails have been sent. With the help of the fans who are willing to spread the word, the WGA can and will prevail in its struggle to win fair wages for working people from the AMPTP.

What can you do now?

Please tell your friends and family to send emails to network executives, too. The more people they hear from, the more they'll know that people are aware of what's going on, and they care about what's at stake.

You can do it here:

Firedog

Happy holidays to you, your friends and family, and thank you again for your support.

Some good news:

Solar cheaper than coal and falling

Actually, it is about 3 times as expensive to construct an equivalent amount of power, but then the sunlight is free and the coal is not.

micki said...

I won't pretend to know that I understand what goes on in countries such as Pakistan. (I don't get what goes on here sometimes!) But, I do know that South Asians love their martyrs. Bhutto's death will bring people into the political process or it will bring lots of blood-letting (or both).

She may be a martyr, but she isn't a saint. All this talk about democracy in Pakistan, Iraq, etc. is so much crap! When she was in power, she was a dictator, too -- but a very glamorous one, a woman in an over-whelmingly male-dominated political culture. And she didn't wear a military uniform or talk tough.

I've never been convinced that Bhutto wasn't corrupt and governed badly. I'm sorry she was murdered, but her death shouldn't turn her into a saint -- like we do here in the United States. Our bastards die and the TeeVee networks are crawling with toadies yakking up all the fine traits of Reagan, Nixon, Henry Hyde, etc.

Her death has meaning. I just know what it is.

The way it looks with the goings on in the ME it is quite possible, in fact positive for nuk-le-ear detonation in the future.

This area is like a festering boil of anger, angry people kill other people, making their more angry with dealing out revenge and hatred by the megabuttload.

Reason has gone 'out the window'.

If the Defense Department knows where the nukes are forced engagement to secure those is priority one!

I don't give a damn what the Pakistanis want, secure the nukes and lets talk.

This is one time where the Worlds interest overrides Pakistan; your unstable? you have nukes? we need to stop this material from being compromised in any way.

Otherwise we will have unlocked the Genie from the box once again.

Talking is always best but sometimes force is needed for the greater good of the World.

Iraq was not one of them, this one is.

Worth reading, IMO. A look at the situation in Pakistan and what it might portend, from one person's POV

DEN said...

They have shown to the World probable cause through their lack of stability, to secure the nukes and just secure the nukes with our military and defend them from being compromised.

Mushariff should be glad to have help if he does not want more blood on his hands. India will not attempt a first strike and Afganistan has it's own issues, no nukes, so there is no threat, let us keep an eye on them for ya, fix your country first.

Isn't that what friends are for?

Unless maybe we are NOT friends.

micki said...

We hear much about climate/resource wars. But, we see many conflicts over an abundance of natural resources. Some people want it all.

It is reckless political leaders who deserve much of the blame -- we are going to kill ourselves in climate/resource wars or more quickly with nuclear weapons. Damned stupid, us humans.
