My husband can't sleep either. I tell him he probably doesn't need the sleep, or it's because he does a lot of napping when he watches TV in the evening. He doesn't believe that and denies the napping. Ha! "Bob. Hey, Bob." Nothing.

I sleep like the dead. :)

Try melatonin. It helped me when I worked different shifts. It's like... you know in order to work all night you should be sleeping now, during the day, but your mind doesn't cooperate. Melatonin helps without making you drowsy or with any kind of 'high' at all. It's a natural hormone your body produces already. Daylight is the natural key... at night your body starts producing it and quits in the morning. Take a little extra an hour or so before you want to sleep and it helps you fall asleep quicker. I used to take a 1-mg. tablet, but those are hard to find now. Wal-mart and other stores sell mostly 3-mg tablets, so I cut 'em in half.

There is no way anyone can sleep with all the psycho presidential candidates running for president. Hillary is probably in deep trouble and Giuliani is through as a candidate. The darling of the wackos, sickos, and psychos who are the religious and political reich is Huckabee. He will probably be the next president because Nazi America's elections are rigged.

Only Bloomberg can save the day to run as an independent. My hope is that he would select Kucinich as his running mate.

So how did we get to this point to begin with? I've written previously that 1980 was somehow a huge year in history. I keep bumping into it at every turn in my research. The downturn actually began in 1971 when the gold standard was dropped, but 1980 saw the real beginnings of the imminent failure of unchecked capitalism in a growth oriented society.

Since 1980, the national debt has risen 1000% and the U.S. has gone from the largest creditor nation to the largest debtor nation on earth. Were the Democrats or the Republicans the bad guys?
Who is to blame? My belief is that every administration that the U.S. has had since the industrial revolution began in earnest should bear some blame. A growth based economy set on an exponential (ever expanding) platform in a finite world, is mathematically impossible. And the outcome of practicing such a basis is totally predictable.

We are now playing out the final hands in a game of bluff to see who blinks first and has to tell the truth. The stage was set, the plot was written, and the players were nearly irrelevant as to the ending.

Only a new plot could have changed the outcome and I think the playwright is dead.

Gerald said...

There are many ways of looking at this latest development.

Maybe those of us who sounded the alarm about the coming war on Iran were successful in convincing the intelligence community to take a hard look at the basis for such a proposed war.

Maybe Dick Cheney got too down in the dumps battling heart disease to manipulate intelligence from CIA, as he did during the run-up to war in Iraq.

Maybe the mountain of evidence that he'd mucked up the world finally came home to Bush in some midnight epiphany.

Could be the accumulation of scandals regarding Neo-conservatives such as Jack Abramoff, Scooter Libby, Paul Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others eroded the ability of fellow travelers like Norman Podhoretz and Billy Crystal to convince Bush to bomb yet another country.

Maybe Bush had a little talk with Jesus. Or Bar, or G.W., or Karl, and realized the crushing political consequences of his many muck-ups.

Perhaps he finally took to heart those polls among historians predicting his presidency would be regarded as the worst in the history.

Maybe Bush finally realized what many of us opined as early as 2002, that the real threats to world stability and human rights emanate from so-called allies, such as Pakistan (busy spreading nuclear technology and protecting the Taliban and al-Qaeda) and Saudi Arabia, busy spreading Wahabbism across the Middle East and repressing women.

Or who knows? Maybe the NIE report is just new, improved intelligence analysis at work.

We'll likely never know.

Anonymous said...

Gerald, you're right. We'll probably never know what's behind the public disclosure of the NIE. But, here's my latest "theory" :-))

Valerie Plame's peers ratted out the busheviks on NIE...well...could be....Remember when we heard that Valerie Plame's job was to keep nukes from Iran....

CBS confirms 2006 Raw Story scoop: Plame's job was to keep nukes from Iran

Muriel Kane and Dave Edwards

Published: Saturday October 20, 2007

CBS News has confirmed, in advance of a 60 Minutes interview with outed CIA agent Valerie Plame to be run this Sunday, that Plame "was involved in operations to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons."

"Our mission was to make sure that the bad guys, basically, did not get nuclear weapons," Plame told 60 Minutes. Plame also indicated that her outing in 2003 had caused grave damage to CIA operations, saying, "All the intelligence services in the world were running my name through their databases" to see where she had gone and who she had met with.

Maybe the Cheney/Bush Bunch felt the heat and took this unusual step of making public the NIE as a pre-emptive move to minimize the fallout?

But, dollars to a donut...they'll start their new war anyway.

Dear Dennis,

We're on the verge of a breakthrough moment in our fight against global warming. After more than 10 months of hearings, testimony from hundreds of scientists and experts, and many hours of debate, the Environment & Public Works (EPW) Committee may be only a few days away from sending the most far-reaching global warming program in the world to the Senate floor.

America's Climate Security Act, S. 2191, would cut greenhouse gases below 1990 levels by 2020 -- and cut emissions by nearly 70% by 2050.

This is a critical step in our fight against global warming, but as EPW Committee Chair, I'm working with only a one vote margin. We're so close to passing this bill through the Committee and sending it to the Senate floor, with a vote coming as soon as Wednesday, but it's going to be difficult. That's why I'm asking for your help today.

Forward an email to the members of the Environment and Public Works Committee now, urging them to pass our global warming bill and send it on to the full Senate!

Global warming is only becoming more urgent by the hour. The world's leading scientists on the International Panel on Climate Change recently reported that without bold action, 40 percent of the species in the world would be threatened with extinction. And global warming does not just threaten the environment: Economist Jeffrey Sachs warns that climate change may have depleted many resources in the Darfur region and been a root cause of the genocide in Sudan. This gives a terrifying look into the future.

But I approach this issue with hope, and not fear. We can do this. If our bill passes, it will send an incredible signal to the world that America, the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases and the only major industrialized nation that has failed to sign the Kyoto Protocol, is finally acting. Together, we can save our air with clean energy sources and stop our dependence on foreign oil. In short, we can be healthier and stronger, with good green collar jobs and new technologies to export.

But for this bill to make it to a Senate vote, I need you to speak out and urge my fellow Committee members to support America's Climate Security Act today.

We're already seeing the effects of global warming, and it is past time that we start working against more severe consequences.

Our bill recognizes that there must be a smooth transition in our industrial and economic sectors, and we have been very mindful of helping our consumers and businesses change in a positive way. America's Climate Security Act takes strong action on an urgent and dangerous matter without crippling our economy.

We're so close to passing this bill through the Environment and Public Works Committee -- the same committee that wrote every major piece of environmental legislation, including the Clean Air Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Superfund Act, and many others. We're poised to make history again, but I need your help in this last push today.

I am so proud that so many have urged members of the EPW Committee to vote in favor of this key global warming legislation, including a broad bi-partisan group of leading elected officials in California, as well as a long list of well-respected environmental organizations, leaders of the faith community, and many others.

I've been Chair of the EPW Committee for less than a year -- and this week, my dream for the Committee may well come true, with your help.

The world has waited long enough for America to take action on this urgent issue. Now is our chance to lead the fight against global warming.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

P.S. The special interests are already running attack ads against this important bill, and I need your help to counter them today. Please take just a few seconds, right now, to urge the Senators on the EPW Committee to support America's Climate Security Act before Wednesday's expected vote -- and then invite everyone you know to do the same.

Keyboard activism here.

Why I Cry and Why I Puke?

Dear Posters:

Today, December 3, 2007, I learned that Hitler Bush knew for sometime that Iran did not have nuclear weapons. In fact Iran stopped any interest in acquiring nuclear weapons as far back as 2003. Yet, Nazi Israel kept prodding Nazi America and Hitler Bush to bomb and possibly nuke Iran. Personally, I believe that Nazi America will bomb Iran because Nazi Israel has ways of instigating unrest in the Middle East and Nazi Israel wants Iran bombed.

Hitler Bush lied to us into a war with Iraq and he was still willing to lie to us in a war with Iran. Please reflect on Hitler Bush and his mad man’s policies that create chaos, mayhem, death, and destruction. Please think of all the misery, pain, and suffering he has unleashed upon the earth through his lies. And, please take the time to study Hitler Bush’s mass murders and war crimes against humanity and you will have the answer to why I cry and why I puke.

Hitler Bush is a demented, a deranged, and a diabolical murderer. He reveals a total indifference toward his murdering of human beings.

Alan, Rachel Maddow is one smart cookie!

Here's the lede and a few grafs from a NYT article, after bush's session acting like a moron for all the world to see:

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 — President Bush said today that a new intelligence finding that Iran halted its nuclear weapons work in 2003 had not altered his sense that Iran remained a danger.

The world needed to view the report as “a warning signal,” not grounds for reassurance, he said, and the United States would not renounce the option of a military response.

“I have said Iran is dangerous,” Bush said a day after the release of the National Intelligence Estimate, representing the consensus of all 16 American spy agencies, “and the N.I.E. doesn’t do anything to change my opinion about the danger Iran poses to the world — quite the contrary.”

Don't confuse him with facts.

I-5 is the heavily traveled interstate between the Puget Sound Area and Portland. -- WSDOT report

VANCOUVER – Interstate 5 remains closed in Lewis County today. I-5 is closed in the Chehalis area, between Grand Mound (milepost 88) and exit 68. The interstate is currently under approximately 10 feet of water and is expected to remain closed until Thursday or later.

The roads in Southwest Washington are left heavily impacted as rain continues to ravage the region, leaving many closures.

I-5 Detour
Be advised the detour route is approximately 440 miles and takes about seven hours in good conditions. WSDOT advises that all non-essential trips be delayed for at least the next 36 hours.

From Seattle, drivers in the Central Puget Sound area traveling south towards Oregon are advised to use Interstate 90 to Ellensburg, then south on Interstate 82 through Yakima and the Tri-cities/Richland to Umatilla, Ore. then west on Interstate 84 to I-5 in Portland.

Well, what is a nanopaint?

nanopaints to absorb solar energy while parked to charge its batteries

I'm clueless. That just sounds so very exciting, but I cannot even imagine what a nanopaint is. Does it come it teensy-eensy little buckets, measured in billionths of a gram? :-)) I don't get it!

David B. Benson said...

Nanopaint is paint with some form of nanoparticles mixed into it.

I've no idea how this is supposed to generate electricity from sunlight...

nanopaints and solar

NATHAN LEWIS: So we're working on using nanostructures—nanotubes, nanoparticles—where nano means really tiny. I'm trying to use these materials to capture and convert and store sunlight in new ways.

NARRATOR: But that's not all.

NATHAN LEWIS: We want things that are so cheap that you could treat them like paint at Home Depot. And you'll paint your roof or paint your house with it. So, that would really lower the cost of solar electricity a lot.

NARRATOR: Here's how Lewis's nanopaint might work: First, you need to roll out a layer of something to help conduct the electricity, a thin sheet of plastic with an aluminum coating would do. You also need wires that will ultimately conduct the electricity to the house.

Now, you're ready for Lewis's solar paint. Its key ingredient, a compound called titanium oxide, is processed into nanotubes that point toward the sun like blades of grass.

NATHAN LEWIS: TiO2 is an incredibly common cheap chemical. It's in toothpaste. It's the pigment in white paint, these little tiny particles.

NARRATOR: And when photons of sunlight strike individual TiO2 atoms, they knock loose electrons, just like they do to silicon atoms in a solar cell. And if you put a positively-charged clear coating over the paint, the negatively-charged freed electrons start moving to the wires and down to the inverter boxes so the kids can watch TV.
So far, Lewis has only tested small amounts of what he calls "dye-based cells" in the lab, but the results are promising.

NATHAN LEWIS: The dye-based solar cells, right now, in some small test samples are 10 percent efficient. Silicon cells, the best ones are 20 percent efficient. So we have a ways to go, but we are within shooting distance.

So, it's clear to me, I think, that the aircraft carrier bombing theory will come into being now. An "outright" attack, that's the only way Cheney will be able to do what he wants. A falso flag attack.
