Valentines Day

Another 'better buy me flowers' day is upon us so all you men, do your duty and lavish your love with stuff to make her sneeze, itch, or get a stomach ache, it's your job so get to it or you will be in deep doo doo.

Meanwhile our Gub-ment will show us the love as only they know how by monitoring those Valentine messages. Doesn't that just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

On each topic, the Clintons are arguably more vulnerable than Obama: Hillary Clinton voted to give George W. Bush authorization to invade Iraq (while Obama opposed the invasion), the Clintons both have praised Reagan far more than Obama has, and the Clintons had closer ties to an ethically challenged developer, Whitewater’s James McDougal, than Obama apparently had with Tony Rezko.

It’s as if the Clintons are channeling Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, whose legendary audacity included attacking an opponent on a strong point even when their candidate was more vulnerable. Think Rove’s assault on John Kerry’s Vietnam War heroism, though George W. Bush had shirked his National Guard duty.

But some Democrats who send us e-mails view this political chutzpah as a good thing, that the Clintons are showing they’ve learned from the Republican scorched-earth tactics and thus are best qualified to wrest control of the White House from the GOP.

These Democrats ridicule what they call Obama’s “kumbayah” strategy of trying to achieve some form of unity among America’s bitterly divided political factions. The mocking reference to “kumbayah” relates to the campfire song derived from an old African spiritual.

Obama’s “kumbayah” is dismissed as either hopelessly naïve or disingenuous.

Some of these hard-bitten Democrats, who now are rallying behind Hillary Clinton, also say they suspect that Obama is a “closet DLCer,” a reference to the centrist Democratic Leadership Conference, where ironically Bill Clinton was chairman for two years.

As First Lady, Hillary Clinton pushed her own DLC-like strategy, the concept of “triangulation” which rejected traditional Democratic positions and distanced the Clintons from many rank-and-file Democrats, in favor of “third way” compromises with Republicans.

In her memoir, Living History, Mrs. Clinton claims credit for bringing Republican pollster Dick Morris back into President Clinton’s inner circle in 1994, overriding resistance from others in the White House who feared that Morris would be a right-wing mole.

“Nobody in the Democratic power structure liked or trusted him,” she acknowledged.

While Morris did help advance Mrs. Clinton’s “triangulation” strategies, he ultimately proved his critics right by betraying the Clintons and going on TV to decry Democrats in the most venomous terms, helped by the insider credibility that Hillary Clinton had bestowed on him.

Something fishy about ole hill, not quite able to hide her allegiance to the repug machine while trying to act Democrat. It is obvious to me as someone who watches body language, she attempts the fence walk and fails miserably doing so.

Drop the act and show your true colors!

Well, you better, or it'll be done to you!. haha It's not like he picked a victim on the street or sumshyt. It's what these guys do for a living. It's a sanctioned fight between two willing competitors, so you best do unto him first.
K, so you're not a fan, but it's become very popular and is the fasting growing sport now. But yeah, each to their own. Myself, I wouldn't spend a nickel to watch people play poker.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Harriet Myers and Josh Bolten are to be held in contempt, Congress just announced.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!!

There's your candy and flowers, right there. A wish come true.

Your comment on the channeling of Rove and Atwater--two of the scariest men one can think of--is something that people are noticing about the Clinton campaign. Other people have mentioned their concerns. You gotta know that Hillary's feeling it right now, the incredible pressure. The media isn't helping her much either, I notice.

I have to admit, it does look good for Obama. I feel so tentative about letting any real hope come forward. Kind of scared to. This is the biggest dream of all, a black man in the White House.

It's the biggest, most seemingly unattainble dream for us sixties people.

To think it might come true, oh, that's just plain terrifying, To open yourself up like this, to hope fo this, I find it scary and sublime, all at the same time.

St Valentines Day Massacre:

Democrats passed contempt of Congress citations against two Bush administration figures Thursday after the charges had spent months in limbo.

On a vote of 223-to-32 House Democrats succeeded in passing the contempt charges against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former counsel Harriet Miers, after Republicans walked out in protest.

House Republicans staged a walk-out Thursday afternoon to protest the contempt vote and the failure by the chamber's majority members to bow to President Bush's demands on a controversial spying law. (Video below)

"We will not stand here and watch this floor be abused for pure political grandstanding at the expense of our national security. ... Let's just get up and leave," Republican Leader John Boehner advised his colleagues as they dramatically left the floor Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Boner rounded up the rethugs and left, TSK, TSK, now maybe we can get something done!

What was it on CSPAN? I've got it on now. Health insurance and prexisting conditions problems?

DEN said...

Well it was a fierce battle between the dems and repugs over the vote vs the Lantos memorial and the repugs walkout, was quite amusing.

Now it is healthcare.

Former Senator Lincoln Chafee endorsed Obama.

I think they're picking fights everywhere on purpose, the Repugs are. Plus, they want the FISA bill something fierce, of course. But you saw last night, Den, how some Dems are also backing immunity on Olbermann.

All this rampaging and picking fights, anything will do to set the terms of the coming political fights, Rove style. Control, total control and fear-mongering. They're deliberately stirring up hornet's nests.

Serious barf moment on Hardball: Chris Matthews and Ken Blackwell of Ohio vote fraud notoriety joking around. Chris, "When you gonna run for office again Blackwell?" Others chimed in saying "yeah, when are you going to run?". Oh my God.

I couldn't take even watching that asshole on national TV making comments. This is what Matthews does, he courts criminals and acts like their old friends.

Matthews is prissying around right now because he got front page of the Style section in the WP from Howard Kurtz. Apparently, it was a loveletter to Chris and his show.

On CNN there was a bit about a People Magazine interview with Obama and wife. CNN person said they asked him how life had changed since he'd been running for president.

"You don't have to pay for anything anymore," I said to my dog?

Obama said something like he was able to get his kids Hanna Montana tickets. He said he could get into restaurants when he wanted to.

"So, in other words, your money is yours now. The rest of your life is pretty much a free ride. Isn't that what I told you before, Izzy? He'd never have to pay for anything again?"

Two things I realized today.

1. Very few know this day by it's real name; Saint Valentines day.

2. The repugs and Rep.Boner are whiny little pipsqueaks with power that need to be taken behind the woodshed.

DEKALB, Ill. - A man dressed in black opened fire with a shotgun and two handguns from the stage of a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University on Thursday, killing five students and injuring 16 others before committing suicide, authorities said.

The gunman fatally shot four women and a man in a "brief, rapid-fire assault" that sent terrified students running for cover, university President John Peters said. Four of the six total dead died at the scene, and the other two died at a hospital, he said.

Witnesses in the geology class said "someone dressed in black came out from behind a screen in front of the classroom and opened fire with a shotgun," Peters said.

Story here.

Scientists Reveal First-Ever Global Map of Total Human Effects on Oceans

(Santa Barbara, CA) – More than 40 percent of the world's oceans are heavily affected by human activities, and few if any areas remain untouched, according to the first global-scale study of human influence on marine ecosystems. By overlaying maps of 17 different activities such as fishing, climate change, and pollution, the researchers have produced a composite map of the toll that humans have exacted on the seas.
